Cuju, Shandong's ancient football game

The 2005 Chinese Premier League kicked off on April 2nd at the Shandong
Provincial Stadium. At the opening ceremony, a Cuju (an ancient football
game) performance, featuring Shandong's unique ancient culture, attracted
huge audiences. Pictured: Twelve people in Song Dynasty (960-1127)
clothing from the Linzi Cuju Performance Team put on a special Cuju
performance in two teams following ancient rules. Cuju was called Taju
during the West Han Dynasty (206BC-8AD). Ju is a soft ball made of animal
leather and stuffed with hair.
