(March 1) New measures on the inspection and quarantine of imported
fruits will take effect on July 5. Insiders said that this was a
significant sign that China is seeking to safeguard public health after
the experience of SARs and avian flu. The Shanghai Entry-Exit Inspection
and Quarantine Bureau disclosed on February 28 that Shanghai will take
the initiative to implement new administrative measures.
